A Journey Through the Hibiscus Supply Chain Vietnam
Have you ever wondered what defines the "soul" of a perfect cup of tea? Last week, we took our clients on an immersive trip to Ninh Thuan to witness the organic hibiscus supply chain in Vietnam firsthand. Through the lens of our BIO-TRUECOOP ecosystem, the journey from sun-drenched nursery farms to our Bioplant factory revealed a standard of quality for global markets.
Discovering Bio Factory - The Heart of Production

The journey began at the True Coop office and Bio Factory. Alongside our partners from True Coop and BioValley Vietnam, we spent hours exploring the facility that is now fully operational.
There is nothing quite like the experience of tasting Hibiscus tea right where it’s processed. Between checking samples and observing the production lines, our clients got a firsthand look at the production.

Visiting The Hibiscus Farm: Where Quality Begins
Discovering The Nursery Farm
We then moved to the Hibiscus Nursery Farm. This is where we test the seeds before giving them to the farmers. We check if they grow well and stay healthy. It is a small but important step to make sure the final product is always high quality.

For us, Hibiscus is a vital part of our value chain. It provides a stable income for our farmers alongside their Cashew and Pineapple crops.
The clients also taught us better ways to harvest the flowers to save on costs. These honest conversations help us grow and provide better value to everyone, from the farmers to the final buyers.
Why Ninh Thuan can produce the best Organic Hibiscus in Vietnam?
It was here that we discussed the Ninh Thuan Terroir. The intense dry heat and strong sunlight of Ninh thuan helps the plant develop a very special taste.
Compared with Egyptian hibiscus, Vietnamese hibiscus is often:
- Milder and more naturally sweet
- Brighter, more vibrant in red color
- Thicker in calyx flesh, giving a fuller body in infusion and extracts

Within Vietnam, there are also two distinct profiles:
- Mekong Delta & some Central regions: Due to higher humidity, richer soil, and more rainfall, hibiscus tends to be more acidic and sharper in taste.
- South Central Coast (dry, sunny harvest season): The dry heat and strong sunlight during harvest help concentrate natural sugars and aroma compounds.
This results in:
- More fragrant notes
- Deeper, attractive red color
- A balanced, smoother sweetness with lower perceived acidity
For tea, beverage, and natural color applications, this regional difference is critical when selecting origin for the desired sensory profile. Our client shared a powerful compliment: "Your Hibiscus is truly premium quality."

Working together in an Ecosystem
Viet Haus is part of a group of BIO-TRUECOOP Ecosystem that work together to help farmers and protect the environment. We don't do everything alone.
- True Coop: developing organic farms with bio-diversified crops of cashew, pineapple, hibiscus,… in Ninh Thuan, Vietnam with target to reach over 300 farm members in 2028
- Bioplant: processing organic pineapple into dried pieces and juices, cashew apples into alternative meats or plant-based food.
- Viet Haus: We are the bridge. We talk to the world and find the right customers who care about organic and fair products.

With driven purposes, together we head for a greener future through organic and circular agriculture and create more impact for local farmers.
Conclusion
Building a good organic hibiscus supply chain takes time and a lot of honest work. We are happy that more and more people are joining us on this journey. If you want a partner who tells it like it is and cares about quality, let's talk.
